Doctoral network - International Investment Law
The Doctoral Network International Investment Law enables doctoral students from this field of law to get to know each other and to exchange views. At our meetings, we discuss doctoral projects, current topics related to international investment law, and general questions concerning the writing of a doctoral thesis. In addition, the members of the Doctoral Network have the opportunity to give short presentation at the meetings in order test new ideas and practise their presentation skills. Furthermore, we attend conferences or workshops together. Occasionally, we invite former doctoral students and experts from legal practice to enrich our discussions.
The members of the Doctoral Network can also initiate their own projects or participate in projects of the IILCC. The first major project of the Doctoral Network in cooperation with Jun.-Prof. Dr. Julian Scheu is about the reform of the investor-state dispute resolution. The research paper written within the framework of this project - which is published here - was presented by the members of the research group in January 2020 on a conference in Vienna during a session of the UNCITRAL Working Group III.
The meetings of the Doctoral Network usually take place quarterly at the premises of the International Investment Law Centre Cologne (IILCC) - Habsburgerring 1, 50674 Cologne. The exact dates are announced on the IILCC homepage and via the mailing list.
The Doctoral Network welcomes doctoral students who are not enrolled at the University of Cologne. In addition, we invite to join doctoral students from all areas of international economic law, international arbitration, general international law or the EU's external economic policy. Of course, doctoral candidates who are still looking for a topic for their doctoral thesis can join us as well.
Currently, the Doctoral Network comprises around 30 to 45 members.
