Prof. MMag. Dr. August Reinisch, LL.M. (NYU)
Prof. Dr. August Reinisch is Professor of International and European Law at the University of Vienna, as well as Head of the Section of International Law and International Relations and Director of the LL. M. Program „International Law“ at the University of Vienna, furthermore member of the Council and Board Member of the German Society of International Law.
Additionally, from 2010 to 2016 he was Vice-Dean of the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna. August Reinisch is also Adjunct Professor at the Bologna Center/SAIS at Johns Hopkins University (1999-2010), Visiting Professor at the University of New South Wales, Sydney/Australien and lecturer at the Donauuniversity Krems. Since 2005 Arbitrator and legal expert in various investment arbitrations. Since 2014 member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague. Since 2017 member of the International Law Commission of the United Nations.
August Reinisch studied law at the university of Vienna (Mag. jur. 1988, Mag. phil. 1990, Dr. jur. 1991) as well as at New York University (LL.M. in International Legal Studies 1989) and holds a diploma of the Hague Academy of International Law (1994). He received the Venia docendi in public international law and European law by the University of Vienna in 1998.
August Reinisch is admitted to the bar in the United States (New York und Connecticut 1990) and has consulted in proceedings and as an expert in the areas of international arbitration, der public international and EU law. He is a member of the ICSID Panels of Conciliators and of Arbitrators and currently serves on various investment arbitration tribunals.
His research focuses on the Law of international organisations as well as international commercial law. He is a co-editor of International Organizations Law Review, International Legal Materials und Oxford Reports on International Law in Domestic Courts.
